Our mission

The mission of the Quebec Photonic Network focuses on the following:

  • Mobilize players in the public, para-public and private sectors around the regional challenges and requirements, in an effort to focus their efforts on a common goal.
  • Favour networking and the development of strategic alliances as well as facilitate access to tax incentives and investments.
  • Foster the emergence of new practices and new partnerships between the industry and the research and training sectors.
  • Contribute actively to the promotion and outreach of optics-photonics on the provincial, national and international level.
  • Encourage and support initiatives relating to research, the transfer of technology and manpower training.
  • Foster the development of new markets in terms of both geography (exports to Europe, Asia, the Americas, etc.) and sectors (aerospace, health and biotechnologies, etc.)
  • Foster the economic development of Quebec and Canada, by consolidating and developing leadership in the optics and photonics field.
  • Contribute to the creation of conditions conductive to the establishment of new companies as well as the growth of existing ones.

The objectives targeted by the Quebec Photonic Network reflect the vision of its leaders who seek to raise Quebec’s profile in Canada and throughout the world as a centre of competence and excellence in technological innovation and production in the photonics industry.

The key objectives are:

  • Create conditions fostering the development of networking among various players in this sector.
  • Encourage increased collaboration between the private sector and public research centres.
  • Increase the capability of universities, research centres and the private sector to carry out research and development activities in the optics-photonics sector in Quebec.
  • Enhance Quebec’s ability to attract and retain the international calibre of researchers and professors needed to ensure optimal development of the industry.
  • Provide Quebec with the training infrastructures and resources needed to provide training, under the best possible conditions, of all qualified manpower required by the industry.
  • Help attract new companies in the optics-photonics field to Quebec.
  • Strengthen Quebec’s vocation in the field of telecommunications and ensure the development of other strategic axes, notably in the aerospace, health and biotechnology sectors.
  • Raise Quebec’s profile, enhance its reputation and increase its competitiveness in the optics-photonics industry worldwide.
  • Represent and serve the interests of Quebec's companies active in projects and initiatives targeting the development of new markets.

In short, the actions of the Quebec Photonic Network address four priorities: business development, development of expertise, promotion of the industry, and governmental and institutional relations.
